Bio of Shihan Mats Tverin

Founder of Ronin Do Karate & Ju Jutsu and President of Ronin Do International

Shihan Tverin began his training in Martial Arts at the age of 13 and has been actively training since then. He studied directly under Grandmaster Ernesto Castro for over 20 years.  GM E.Castro  was a private student of GM R. Cocatré and Technical Director of R. Cocatré int. De Bushido.

In the early ‘90s Shihan Tverin also studied and taught Muay Thai. In addition to this he also trained in boxing during 1990-1992 and 2001-2002 and Tae Kwon Do during 1995-2007.

Shihan Tverin was on the board of the Medical Committee of the National Governing Body of Martial Arts in Sweden (Swedish Budo and Martial Arts Federation) beetween 2009-2013 and the Swedish Kyokushin Federation (also under Swedish Budo and Martial Arts Federation).  2012-2013

Januari 2011 Shihan Tverin was inducted into the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honour. Shihan received ”Outstanding contribution to the Martial Arts” This was held at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, USA and Shihan was reelected for the same Award in jan 2013 and jan 2015

Sep 2015 Shihan got inducted into International Hall of Fame in Cape Verde 
During the years Shihan Tverin has been Awarden several prestigues awards in different Hall of Fames.  Twice in Lisbon.  May 2011 May 2012 May 2014 and May 2015
In June 2009  Shihan Tverin was inducted into the "London International Martial Arts Hall of Fame" 

Shihan Tverin also holds following grades-

  • 5 Dan Nihon Kobudo (Cala Montjoi, Spain June 16th 2012)
  • 3 Dan WTF Tae Kwon Do (Maj 2008)
  • 1 Dan Aikido "Cocatre" (June 1994)

Like in so many other styles and Arts Shihan found it impossibel not to go his own way and start Ronin Do International. due to his increased knowledge in areas like Biomechanics, kinesioliy,  how the nervous system works, mental training for both sports and self-defence.
Since the start in 2005 Ronin Do International  has grown rapidly and as of today it consist of 8 Schools in 6 Countries.  Shihan Tverin is often invited to both National and International camps as a instructor and has taught in the USA, UK, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, France, Croatia and of course Sweden where Ronin Do Honbu Dojo is situated.

The style of Ronin Do is a contemporary Self-Defence system.  Karate, Ju Jutsu and Kickboxing are all practiced within the contemporary self defence system of Ronin Do and techniques that only have historical value and function are eliminated.   All techniques are adapted to ensure that they are as effective as possible and the performance is based on a modern athletes physiology/psychology with a strong focus on the pupils own safety.


 

 

CONSTITUTION OF RONIN DO INTERNATIONAL

 

Article I - Name and Type of Association

 

§1.The name of the association is Ronin Do International. The Association was founded by Mats Tverin.
The Ronin Do International shall hereinafter be designated the RDI in this Constitution

 

Article II- Seat of the association

 

§2. The official seat of the RDI shall be set by the President of the RDI

 

 

Article III- The aims and objects of the Association

 

§3. To give clubs (Dojos) which are affiliated to the RDI access to the RDI system and know how. To give them access to the Senior Instructors of the RDI. To give official recognition to those Black Belts who have been approved by the RDI
§4. To educate and license Instructors
§5. The exchange of knowledge and experience between those clubs that are affiliated to the RDI
§6. To improve the technical standard of the individual members of those clubs that are affiliated to the RDI
§7. To set the standards for and regulate the promotions of the individual members of those clubs that are affiliated to the RDI
§8. To arrange promotional tests both for Black Belts and Kyu grades
§9. To organize clinics, training camps, and summer etc. to achieve the aims and objects of the Association
§10. To adjudicate in any eventual conflicts between affiliated clubs and /or their individual members

 

 

 

Article IV - The official system of the Association

 

§11. The official Budo system to be practiced by those clubs that are affiliated to the RDI is: Ronin Do. In Ronin Do you will practice and be graded in Ronin Do Ju Jutsu and Karate and also practice Ronin Do kickboxing and Ronin Do MMA

 

 

 

Article V - The structure of the Association

 

§12.  The Association has the following structure:

 

The President 

 

The Board of Direktors 

 

The Board of Country Coordinators 

 

§13. The Board may employ whatever professional help is felt necessary to ensure the smooth and effective function of the Association

 

 

 

Article VI - The Affiliation and Testing Fees of the Association

 

§14. The affiliation and testing fees of the Association will be set by the Association’s Board
As of 2015 the affiliation fee is £50/year for the school  and 0€/student

 

Article VII - Membership Regulations

 

§15. Affiliation to the Association is open to both commercial and non-profit making clubs which are organized in a business like manner
§16. Clubs wishing to affiliate to the RDI must practice the Ronin Do.
§17. Clubs wishing to affiliate to the RDI must make a written application to the President of the RDI, or to the RDI National Coordinator, where applicable, in the country in question, a copy of which must be then sent to the Board of the RDI in English or Swedish.
§18. The representative of a club applying for affiliation must submit the following to the RDI:

 

A résumé in English of the club's senior Instructor's Budo career 

 

A copy of your Diploma 

 

A Picture of you 

 

 

 

Article VIII -The Country Coordinators of the Association 

 

§19.  The Country Coordinators of the RDI will be appointed or dismissed by the Board of the Association, in consultation with the RDI National Associations in question where applicable.
§ 20. The Country Coordinators of the RDI are the official representatives of the RDI National Associations to the RDI.
§ 21. The Country Coordinators of the RDI will co-ordinate and actively work to expand the RDI activities within their respective countries
§ 22. The Country Coordinators of the RDI will have any other duties or responsibilities bestowed upon them by the Constitution, the President of the Association, or their RDI National Associations

 

 

 

Article Article VIIII - RDI Grading Status 

 

§ 23. RDI Grading Status is awarded or withdrawn by the Technical Director of the RDI, in consultation with the Regional Grading Officer, in the region in question.
§ 24. RDI Grading Status is awarded to Shodans or above who have successfully completed all of the required courses and educations. Occasions may arise where the Technical Director gives special dispensation for other persons to promote
§ 25. RDI Grading Status is awarded to an absolute minimum number of RDI Instructors, in any given country, in order to keep the technical standard of the students as uniform as possible
§ 26.RDI Grading Status is awarded only after the Technical Director is satisfied that the RDI Instructor in question is capable of conducting a promotional test.
§ 27. The Regional Grading Officers of the RDI will monitor the promotions awarded by those persons with Grading Status, to assure that the norm for promotional standards is being adhered to. Anyone not adhering to the required standards can be stripped of their Grading Status by the Technical Director.
§ 28. All Kyu grade certificates shall originate from the RDI Headquarters (Honbu). Any RDI Regional Grading Officer or Instructor with Grading Status who is not issuing the RDI Headquarters’ certificates will automatically forfeit their Grading Status
§ 29. Although the RDI Instructor with Grading Status is solely responsible for the grades awarded in his name, it is preferred that he involves other Instructors in the process.

 

 

 

Article X - The Association’s Promotion Regulations

 

§ 30.  The Technical Director of the RDI will set the promotional requirements and Grading Syllabus of the Association. All RDI Instructors with Grading Status, must adhere to these requirements and Syllabus, or forfeit their grading status.
§ 31. RDI Instructors with RDI Grading Status are the only persons who are authorized to award grades within the Association
§ 32. RDI Instructors with RDI Grading Status will have the highest grade to which they may promote, specified by the Technical Director of the RDI. However the highest grade to which a RDI Instructor with Grading Status may promote is 1 Kyu.
§ 33. All Dan grades will be awarded by the Technical Director of the RDI. Aspirants, who are tested, will normally be tested at a major training or summer camp, by the Technical Director of the RDI. The Technical Director will normally but not necessarily be assisted by a panel of RDI Instructors with Grading Status. Aspirants must normally have written permission from their RDI National Coordinator to test for a Dan grade. The Technical Director has the authority to waive this stipulation.

 

 

 

§ 34. No student may test without fulfilling the RDI’s minimum active time in grade requirements, which are as follows:

If grading is done localy at the affiliated dojos RDI charges £10 for a kuy diploma and £100 for a DAN diploma               

 

By virtue of special circumstances, the RDI minimum active time in grade requirements may be waived by the Technical Director of the RDI.
Permission must be obtained in advance from the RDI, by those persons wishing to test for Dan grades.
Permission must be obtained from the RDI National Coordinator by those persons wishing to be tested at an International Training Camp, for a Kyu grade

 

§ 35. Persons with Dan grades issued by Associations other than the RDI, who wish to have Dan grades awarded by the RDI, will be tested by the Technical Director of the RDI, according to the current RDI Grading Syllabus. The aspirant must have been an active member of the RDI for at least one year.
Persons with Dan grades awarded by other Associations than the RDI may wear their Black belt until such a time that they have been tested and approved by the Technical Director of the RDI as Black Belts

 

§ 36. Persons with Dan grades issued by Associations other than the RDI, who have been accepted and approved by the Technical Director of the RDI, will be eligible for testing to the next Dan grade, after two years active membership of the RDI, provided that they have a active time in grade which exceeds the RDI’s minimum time in grade requirements. Persons with Kyu Grades issued by other Associations will retain their grade until they are fully prepared to take their next higher grade in RDI

Article XI - The Association Dan Grade Titles

 

§ 37. Persons with a grade lower than Shodan will be addressed as "Sempai" during the time that they are instructing a class.
§ 38. Persons with Dan grades from other Ryus will bear the official title of "Sensei".
§ 39. Persons with Shodan will bear the official title of "Sensei".
§ 40. Persons with Godan or above will bear the official title of ”Sensei” if not awarded "Shihan".

 

 

 

Article XII - The Association Logos and Copyrights 

 

§ 41. RDI National Coordinators, Associations, RDI Clubs and RDI Instructors by virtue of the acceptance of this constitution, and any contracts which exist between them and the RDI, and any verbal agreements, accept that they may not use the Logos of the RDI in any commercial enterprise, without the prior explicit written approval of the President of the RDI. Also that all RDI Logos used in marketing must conform to the official RDI Logos
§ 42. RDI National Coordinators, Associations, RDI Clubs and RDI Instructors accept that they will only purchase training equipment bearing the Logos and Trade Marks of the Ronin Do International, from the RDI or suppliers authorized by the RDI
§ 43. RDI National Coordinators, Associations, RDI Clubs and RDI Instructors promise not to make any unauthorized copies of any texts or Instruction Films of the RDI or any related training methods and principles supplied or written by the President or Technical Director of the RDI, without the prior explicit written approval and permission of the Boars of the RDI.
§ 44. All of the above is also applicable to all the individual Club members of Clubs affiliated with the RDI.
